t’s been a long time I’ve been a fan of Theory of a Deadman, since 2008 when they dropped Scars & Souvenirs. They’re now on album number 8, that’s so crazy I’m getting so old.

The sound is definitely a lot more matured here, title track “Dinosaur” and “Medusa (Stone)” are really smooth and slick tracks with a touch of an ominous feel, and lyrically they’re a lot more serious and deeper than we’re used to. “Two Of Us (Stuck)” is the classic track “Just The Two Of Us” by Bill Withers and Grover Washington Jr but with a modern twist and make over, its gorgeous on the face of it that’s an ambitious task to take on but its got a subtle steady groove, its definitely been infused full of the Theory of a Deadman flavour. “Summer Song” a song about a girl that has that angst they’ve always been good at but with less juvenile slurs and insults, I’m quite impressed. “Hearts Too Wild” is undeniably gorgeous, bit of a country edge in there and Tyler’s vocals are on top form, they’ve never struggled to produce really high quality ballads so this is just another one to add to the collection. Don’t get me wrong I’ve very much enjoyed what’s going on here but I kind of miss the immaturity a little bit, nothing like belting out “Hate My Life” or “The Truth is… (I Lied About Everything)” because it was so much fun. Having said that this is definitely a big bold statement reminding everyone that they’re not just the “funny guys”, they have an abundance of talent and know their way around the rock music genre, something I’ve been reminded of with this album.
